Restoration of Grade II
Listed Coach House
in Wimborne, Dorset
Within the centre of Wimborne, this little gem sits within the garden of a prominent town house. Over recent years this Grade II Listed Coach House had been left to fall in to disrepair, so when our clients bought the main house, INKSPACE were asked to help restore the outbuilding in to a modern, self-contained apartment. Working with a Local Heritage Consultant and the Local Planning Authority, planning permission and listed building consent was granted to restore the structural integrity of the roof and to bring the building fabric up to modern day standards.
Downstairs, there is a cosy living room with kitchenette and a bathroom, whilst upstairs accommodates a double bedroom with a vaulted ceiling, exposing the new structure. With a small intervention of a new slimline window on the ground floor, we have connected the internal space to the garden in which the building sits.
“We found Sue, Lauren and the team at INKSPACE easy to deal with, combined with a passion and expertise in finding innovative solutions to complex problems. As we were complete novices in housing design and construction, they helped lead us through a daunting process in terms of the design, Listed Building Consent and Planning Permission stages, and then advised us on the construction phase, which really helped reduce the uncertainty we faced. They were open-minded as to how to achieve our requirements, and helped bridge the technical design and build detail such that we were able to make informed and smarter decisions, and end up with the outcome we really wanted.”
